Dan Szilier

Home Town:

Sewell, NJ

Occupation:

Software Developer for a Private Equity Firm

Background:

Dan was born and raised outside Philadelphia, spent four years at Notre Dame, did a brief stint in Chicago, and then headed back to the Philadelphia area where he now lives in southern New Jersey with his wife and two boys. He has a background in competitive swimming, loves to surf, and has been a Volunteer Firefighter since 2013.

Experience:

A relative newcomer to the sport, Dan entered his first race in 2015 with some co-workers also new to AR. Since then, he’s competed in 30+ races ranging from a few hours to several days. He prefers longer races over shorter, strategy over speed, paddling over hiking, night over day, and loves to navigate!

Highlights:

  • 2015 – Shenandoah Strong (first race)
  • 2017 – Schuylkill Valley Family AR (first race with son)
  • 2017 – The Stockville (first multi-day race)
  • 2018 – Shenandoah Tough (longest race to date)
